Last year, our 6th and 7th grade students met with members of our senior population from the Massry Residence on a monthly basis, to engage in learning and conversations. The movie “Fiddler on the Roof” was used as the springboard for the meetings. Together the students and seniors viewed clips from the movie and had meaningful discussions on topics such as the art of conversation, talking to G-d, traditions, the Pogroms, ways to find meaning in life, gender roles, relationships, the role of Jewish culture in each of our lives, transitions in life, relationships with family, assimilation, cultural identity, intermarriage, and more. They formed new relationships and bonded while sharing values, ideas and experiences.
